What is School of the Spirit?

School of the Spirit is a six-month course for followers of Jesus who want to go deeper in their knowledge and experience of the Holy Spirit.

The gift of the Holy Spirit can feel mysterious at times, or even too good to be true. But in reality, he is our constant companion, who helps us live more like Jesus: secure in our God-given identity, filled with His power, and equipped to carry the Kingdom of God wherever we are.

Through a combination of teaching, ministry, worship, and small groups, we will learn to live lives empowered by the Spirit. We will take risks, learn to depend on him, and have fun together on the journey.

Hello! We are Liam and Helen Thatcher, part of the team at Oxford Community Church, and we have the privilege of leading School of the Spirit.

We are passionate about following Jesus, and learning to grow in the gifts that He gives us. We moved to Oxford in 2021, following a series of dreams and prophetic words, and we are loving the adventure of following God!

School of the Spirit has been such a great way of learning with others, growing in faith, gifts, and relationship with God. We’re excited to see what this next year holds in store, and would love for you to join us!

Our next course

Our next course will run from Oct 2024 - Mar 2025, at The King's Centre in Oxford. It will run most Tuesday evenings during term time, as well as four weekends. 

We’re currently finalising plans, including dates and fees, but if you’d like to find out more, please register your interest, and we will get in touch with more information as soon as it’s available. 

Registering interest doesn't commit you to anything. And if you have any questions in the meantime, please don't hesitate to get in touch.

FAQs

  • This course is designed for anyone who is a committed Christian, and wants to grow deeper in their faith, and their walk with the Holy Spirit. The course is run by Oxford Community Church, which is part of Salt and Light Advance Churches, but we welcome applicants from any church!

  • The fees for School of the Spirit cover running costs, catering, speakers, and all materials you will need for the course.

    We are finalising costs for 2024-25, but as a ballpark, the fee last year was £450.

    We are also able to offer a 50% reduction for University students, and a limited number of subsidised places for non-wage earners. We don’t want finances to get in the way of anyone taking part, so please talk to us if you require further support.

    Fees can either be paid as a one-off payment before the course begins, or in six monthly instalments.

  • We want to make sure that School of the Spirit is the right thing for you, so every applicant will have a conversation with a member of the team. This is a chance for us to get to know you, and to answer any questions you may have. So a member of the team will be in touch shortly after you have applied to talk further.
